@mikehsieh97  If a docking station was a priority for you, then the Inspiron 3511 was not a good choice. The ideal setup for a docking station is a laptop that has a USB-C or Thunderbolt port that supports charging and video output. Your laptop does not have that, so the only docks you can use would be USB-A "regular USB" docks that will not be able to charge your system and also rely on "indirect display" technology for video, since USB-A never supported native GPU output like USB-C can. Indirect display technology has drawbacks that I wrote about in the post marked as the answer in this thread.  But if you're ok with that, then the Dell D6000 or D3100 might be good choices depending on what sort of display setup you want to run through the dock.

If you want a better solution, then you would have to look at laptops with USB-C ports that support charging and video output.  That might involve looking at Inspiron 5000 Series or 7000 Series systems.  Or you might even want to check Vostro systems, since those are basically business-oriented Inspiron systems, and Dell has better docking station support in its business-oriented models.

JPHUGHAN: Thanks for your contributions to the community.  It is evident you know your stuff.  I am hoping you can help with a follow-on question to the above.

Like the OP, I also have a Dell Inspiron 15 3511 as my personal laptop.  My work issued laptop is a Dell Precision 3560 and they also gave me a WD19TBS docking station for my Work From Home setup.

I am tired of swapping all of my monitor and USB cables for the mouse and keyboard every time I want to switch from work to personal computing and vice versa.  I've found a USB 3.0 sharing switch on Amazon that can swap between the two machines, leading to a common docking station.

Will the WD19TBS support this functionality (i.e. will it accept a USB-A input from the switch)? I realize I will lose the Thunderbolt features (charging & better video processing) for the Precision, but is there anything else I am missing here that might make this not work?

Thank you for your time.

I found this dock on Amazon and it works on my Dell 51 3511.  I am running Windows 11 Home and it is extending to 2 displays successfully.
