Backspace, t, y, caps lock, left shift ,[] ,F3 and F7 keys not working after startup

Upon startup, these keys do not work. I had to wait for an unknown amount of time before they start to function. The attached screenshot shows which keys on my keyboard failed.

This problem started since a Windows update. After uninstalling the update, however, the problem did not go away. I have seen similar problems like this across the internet. I tried many things like updating BIOS but the issue persists. My Inspiron 14 was bought only a few months ago. My solutions left are the nuclear option of factory reset or sending it for repair. Does anyone know cause of this problem?

Hi Glacier_12345,

If you try to search for "On-Screen Keyboard"  >  does the On-Screen Keyboard is working fine ??

Glacier_12345,

Could you confirm the keys that are not working after the boot?

Did you try running the keyboard test under the pre-boot diagnostics? (Press F12 at the Dell logo upon power on/reboot before Windows starts to load, select diagnostics on the boot menu). If the keyboard fails the test there, then it's not related to Windows. Possible issue in that case would be a loose/bad ribbon connection for the keyboard.

Hi,

Please share the status of the system keyboard after your observation.

Update = After completing troubleshooting, a DELL-Cares agent setup a part replacement.

My laptop is an Inspiron 15 5567 with Windows 10.

I suspect that the problem is related with the energy transferred by some keys. If I'm right, i have to change the entire keboard. I would do that if i were certain.

My laptop is no longer within the warranty period but i was able to do the diagnosis tests. Everything seems to work fine.

Any suggestion?

I have exactly the same problem with almost the same keys as mentioned in this post.

Does anybody have a solution?
