Audio output to headphones

Inspiron 16 7610

Inspiron 16 7610

I have an Inspiron 16 with Windows 11 installed. The only way I can get audio output to my wired JBL headphones is if I completely shut down my laptop, insert headphones into output jack and then restart my laptop. When I go to settings, I can get the 'Output Test Format' to go to both the speakers and headphones, but the headphones do not show as a connected device.

Your Inspiron 16 laptop has a universal audio jack which can support headphones, microphones, and headsets.  For audio playback to work properly, you must tell the system which audio device you are using by selecting a proper input device.

Since this is not a new laptop and you have failed to disclose any information or event leading to the audio issue, I can only offer a solution but not a diagnosis.  For audio driver, download and reinstall this Realtek audio driver.  Select the box "clean install" if available.  Reboot the system and Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application should be installed automatically.  If not, you can select the provided link for a manual installation.

After a reboot, you can plug in the headphones.  A popup should come up and asking you to select which device just plug in, also select the type, size associated.  Select OK and enjoy your working headphones again.
