Audio output does not switch after first Bluetooth device disconnects

Hi,

I have been experiencing an irksome issue with the audio output for a few days now after the last updates, some by Dell software that was factory installed when I received my laptop, and the latest Windows 11 update.

All of that was installed five or six days ago.

Since then, what happens right after a reboot is this:

  • By default, sound comes from the internal speakers.
  • If I plug an audio jack, sound comes from the internal speakers, as if nothing has been plugged in.
  • If I connect some a headset or earplugs wirelessly via Bluetooth, the sound output is switched to the said headset or earplugs.
  • If I ever turn off the said headset or earplugs, I will no longer be able to have sound output other than the internal speakers, be it the same device that was previously connected or not: any Bluetooth device will appear connected, the sound icon in the system tray will say that the sound output is now the Bluetooth device, but sound will actually come out of the internal speakers.

The only way for me to have sound output through a device is to reboot the laptop. I have tried:

  • restarting the Bluetooth service,
  • switching the output device manually to the connected device,
  • uninstalling MaxxAudio Pro (which had had no useful effect in my eyes),
  • looking for an error of any kind in the Event Viewer.

None of this helped me sort it out.

Is anyone else encountering this same issue? Does someone have an idea as to what is causing this and how to solve it?

Thanks.

I am sorry to report that I don't have a solution. I'm surprised there aren't more people who share this issue or who might have solutions. I have a G16 and have this exact issues. I would only like to add that while my sound usually starts off fine when it does connect to Bluetooth speakers, the sound distorts and dies out after about an hour.

I read some more forums from the search that got me here. I suspected that the sound issue after Bluetooth connection was a separate issue. I had out of date drivers but my regular software update wasn't looking for Intel Bluetooth drivers. I went to the Intel website and did find updated drivers for Bluetooth. Check them out here!

Exact same issue, with Vostro 3583. Started to happen when I moved from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
