New CPU cooler in the dell inspiron 3891

I was wondering would it be possible to install a new cooler into the DI 3891.

What are the Maximum physical dimensions and is there anything I'd need in addition to a cooler.

I was thinking of installing the NH-D9L

the chassis width is 154 mm (6.06 in.)  that gives you some idea of max cooler height it can accommodate.  NH-D9L is only 110 mm tall so it should work heightwise.

most aftermarket cooler of tower style requires user to uninstall Dell motherboard and remove Dell backplate, and install custom backplate.  this is not always an easy job.  for easier cooler update consider those cooler that can use the Dell backplate in situ so you do not have to uninstall mobo etc.

Dell backplate typically uses M3 tapped nut.

not sure whether the Noctua cooler fan will cause a Dell bios startup error.  If the fan rpm is significantly different from Dell fan, it may cause this nuisance error which you can click a key to pass.

3891 motherboard actually does not have a fixed backplate which makes cooler upgrade easier.

the cooler is mounted directly on threaded studs of chassis tray.

The cooler works with the xps 8940, no reason it shouldnt with the inspiron 3891 which uses the same backplate and stock cooler

Hey there community, i have great news for those who searching stock cooler upgrades in Dell 3880, 3891, 3910 and maybe newer models. I have a dell Inspiron 3891 and succesfully upgraded my cooler with a ID Cooling SE 223 Basic, link here https://www.idcooling.com/Product/detail/id/228/name/SE-223%20BASIC

This cooler has 3 heatpipes, it perfectly fits inside, most great about it, that you dont need to dissasemble yours motherboard, i installed it to stock Dell backplate with ID cooling screws all fits like a charm. My temps in OCCT with i5 11400 on stock was 83 degreec Celsius, and Frequencies lower to 2.7Ghz to 3.2Ghz, now all the time CPU works at OCCT on 3.5Ghz on all 6 cores and my temps are 62-64 degrees with MX-4 thermal paste.

The most great thing about this cooler that it costs near 20$ and much cheaper than proposed Noctua one. Also you can use 4Pin Pwm fan cable to 3way, which i boght from Aliexpress for 1.32$ and use CPU COOLER and 2 more ones from standart 4pin header(no errors or any issues) all coolers works at speed of CPU fan.

Later will upload full video to Youtube with my upgrades.PXL_20230611_191240774.jpg

To determine if the NH-D9L cooler can be installed in the DI 3891, please check the maximum physical dimensions of the case and ensure you have any additional components or adapters required for installation.
