Installing firewire card on dell Inspiron 24 Model 3459 Series
I have a lot of Sony 8mm tapes I want to download to my Dell Inspiron 24, Model 3459 Series, all in one desktop. I have an old Sony Handcam with Firewire hookup.
However, there is no firewire connection on my desktop computer so I need to install a firewire card.
The problem is when I took the back off of the desktop as far as I can tell there is no were I can install the firewire.card.
Is there anything I can do short of buying a new computer?
.

You'll probably want a Firewire>USB3 adapter.
Pay attention to your cam file format to make sure software on your PC can open those files.
Lots of "How To" tutorials about transferring Firewire files via USB so search for them.

Be careful with one of these -- converting USB to firewire isn't easily done -- and if the camera requires specific software, that software likely won't work with such an adapter -- and that's assuming it works with a much newer operating system than it was designed for, at all.
If you have a large volume of video to transfer, a true desktop system using a native firewire adapter is a much better idea and a safer bet -- subject to the software required actually working with a newer operating system.
The other option would be to use an analog capture device, which can work with a USB connection (though many older camcorders had both firewire and USB, most can only output still photos by USB -- video is firewire only).
