Inspiron 5675 hard drive failed ePSA

Inspiron 5675

Inspiron 5675

Hello!

Opened up PC.  Reseated and reconnected hard drive.

Ran ePSA and got another code 200-1042 (val 100155).

Is this a repair best left to the pros?

Should I order and new HDD from Dell?

(If so, should I contact Dell Canada?)

What would be my best option?

thanks!

If the HDD is failing, you may not want to try cloning it onto a new SSD (or HDD).  You probably should do a clean install of Windows and your apps on the new drive (with the failing HDD disconnected).

Once PC boots normally from the new drive, you can reconnect the old one to recover you personal files. NOTE: With both drives connected you'll have to boot via the F12 menu to select the new drive as the boot drive. Otherwise, if you boot "normally", the PC is likely to boot from the old drive every time.

@wertham - You don't have to buy the HDD from Dell (Canada).  Order wherever you can get the best price/value on a reputable brand HDD. This system can use either a 3.5" HDD or a 2.5 HDD with an adapter tray.

The Inspiron 5675 specs say systems with a Ryzen 3, 5 or 7 processor support an M.2 NVME SSD. Systems with an AMD Quad-Core APU, only support an M.2 SATA SSD.  Either way, you could remove the failing HDD and install an M.2 SSD.  An M.2 NVME SSD is faster than an M.2 SATA SSD, and both should be faster than a HDD.

Read the Service Manual to see how to remove/replace the HDD or remove the HDD and install an M.2 SSD to see if this is a DIY project for you.

Sure hope your personal files are backed up elsewhere...

@RoHe Thanks for the advice. A local shop has them (at a reasonable price) but the guy said I might have a problem cloning if O/S files are corrupted.

@redxps630 Right. Wasn't sure how to clone the o/s so I'll try Hasleo when I get the new SDD> I just can't get that tiny screw attached because of poor vision so I guess I'll have to pay the guy at the shop to do it.

Be sure to not have 2 boot drives with the same OS (Win10 or 11) in a PC any longer than you have to.  Otherwise, BSOD on at least 1 of the drives will eventually occur.  It starts with "Disk Checking."  It's something Microsoft did.
