inspiron 3670 desktop win 11 funny

Hi, hope someone can help, had dells from the beginning, this is funny. The 3670 is dropping from light speed to creeping impulse regularly,  needing reboot.  I have run dell support asst and F12 diags no perceived problem. The 3670 just freezes, the mouse works but disappears over the bottom tool bar,  ctrl alt delete wont run, nor windows r  i etc nor does ping.

Is there a prog available which I can run in background to determine whats causing the lockup?

many thks

Peter

No problems now since dumping Chrome for Edge, I am monitoring using some of the above suggestions for which I thankyou.   Its a partial solution I suppose, because I dont know exactly what the problem was..

Keep safe

How much RAM do you have installed and do have an HDD or SSD? And was the system working normally before this problem occurred?

You can reboot and tap F12 when you see the Dell splash screen. When the menu opens, select the Diagnostics option and run all of them, including full RAM and drive tests. Copy error messages, if any, and post here...

F12 diags ok, support asst ok,  need something running in the back ground  to trap the problem, is there such a program?    its a 95% freeze,    spider solitaire works ok,  chrome idles on the url,  win + keys dont, cant get down to command prompt,  only solution is to reboot then all ok for a while..

@nicp01  - Is SATA Mode set in BIOS setup to RAID or AHCI? Reboot and tap F2 to open BIOS setup. Just check that setting, but do not change it. Exit setup without saving any changes and PC will reboot itself automatically.

Open Windows Event Viewer and see if anything is logged around the time of a freeze. You can ignore Kernel 41 errors which are a generic error meaning you didn't shut Windows down correctly, eg you forced a reboot. Other error messages may point you at a failing software component.

You may also want to run these system checks:

  1. At desktop, open a CMD prompt window, Run as administrator

  2. At the prompt, type in: chkdsk c: /r and press Enter. Accept offer to run chkdsk at next boot and reboot PC. chkdsk will run before Windows loads so be patient  You can look at the Chkdsk Log when you're back at the desktop to see if it couldn't fix something.

  3. Back at the desktop, open a CMD prompt window, as in #1

  4. At the prompt, type in: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter. Be sure to include a space in front of each / and note any error messages when that's done.

  5. Assuming no "unfixed" errors in #2 or #4, at the CMD prompt, type in: sfc /scannow and press Enter. Be sure to include a space in front of the / and note any errors when that's done.

  6. Assuming no "unfixed" errors in #2, #4, #5, reboot PC and monitor performance.

Thank you for all the advice, no reports of anything untoward. Task monitors show excessive Chrome, Temp mon shows cpu at 48c. I have stopped Chrome and gone back to Edge and its been ok for 48 hrs now, maybe it was one of its extensions.  Anyway I have noted all suggestions to run again if the problem recurs,

Glad you got it sorted. Chrome and its extensions can hog resources.

How much RAM is installed in your PC?  Reboot, tapped F12 and select Diagnostics on the F12 menu. Run the RAM tests to make sure there are no RAM issues.

And I'd still run all the commands I posted. They won't cause harm and can find/fix issues before problems appear.

I run them on my system regularly, especially right before I do a routine backup, to make sure no hidden issues get carried along.
