Inspiron 3650 – what is needed to install two SSDs in the Inspiron 3650?

Hi,

I want to replace my Dell Inspiron 3650 3.5" hard drive with two (2) 2.5" SSD drives.

A couple of questions:

  1. I already have a Samsung 860 EVO 250GB V-NAND SSD. Will this run in the Inspiron 3650?
  2. For the second drive I plan a Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA III 6 Gb/s,  Up to 560 MB/s – (WDS100T3B0A)? Is this compatible with the Inspiron 3650?
  3. Do I need any cables other than  one regular SATA cables and a SATA Y splitter cable?
  4. I have ordered two X9FV3 0X9FV3 2.5” caddies (Dell Inspiron 3650 specified caddy). Can I assume the two SSDs I plan to use will fit these caddies without any adapters?

This PC has Windows 10 Professional 64GB with 16GB of memory.

This PC is mainly being used to surf the Internet. I want to load the system and data on the Samsung 860 SSD and use the Western Digital SSD for daily backups.

My thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions.

The two 2.5” fit in a Dell 2.5 to 3.5 adapter caddy will suffice in form factor as one 3.5” hdd, and will fit 3650. You need a Dell proprietary SATA power cable (plugs in motherboard 6 pin power socket) that has two power connectors for the two ssd.  You may have it already in pc.  You also need two standard sata data cables.

H i,

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realize I needed the Dell proprietary Sata power cable. Too bad! I was hoping to get away with the regular one I already have.

Thanks again for this advice
