GPU and CPU upgrade for Inspiron 531
Recently i found an old Inspiron 531 and i want to upgrade as much as i can as an experiment, what are the best GPU and CPU i can get for it, also, what would be a good replacement for the PSU as i think it's dead, any suggestions aside of throwing it away?
Current specs because i don't know if it's been modified:
M2N61-AX Motherboard
3 Gigabytes of RAM
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+
120 GB SSD

Although not enough samples, a good performance was coming from processor Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 6000+ and Radeon HD 6670 graphics.
As for power supply replacement, it can take standard ATX. A basic 350w from decent PSU makers should be suffice. Remember to take precaution while working inside the chassis. User manual for your reference.

in 2024 I would suggest replace the entire motherboard with an Intel platform which is much better than AMD Athlon an antiquated cpu. AMD was still inferior to Intel at FX stage until it got Ryzen.
531 case and psu support standard mATX mobo just like 530. the only downside is back IO panel needs to be cut out.
I am surprised and I would say do not waste your fund on upgrade based on AMD athlon platform.
