G5 5090, where to buy a 500W replacement PSU?

Hi and good day. A friend of mine wanted to upgrade his G5 5090 with an RTX 2060 or RTX 2070. His current system only have a 260W power supply. And ask me to find a higher wattage psu for his G5. I want to ask where I could buy the Dell 500W. I believe the Dell 500W with Dell P/N Y7R0X is compatible with G5 5090.

I found one at 365powersupply.com, https://www.365powersupply.com/product/y7r0x-0y7r0x-500w-psu-for-dell-g5-5090-7070-7060-d500e005p-power-supply/. Anybody have experience buying dell psu at 365powersupply.com?

Also found several Dell 500W Y7R0X at ebay but don't know if the power supplies are legit. One seller sent me the picture of the label but instead of Y7R0X, his item indicates Y7ROX (letter 'O' instead of number zero). And some have Dell P/N VM8KR, which I have read in the community is a Dell 360W power supply.

BTW, my friend and I are from Malaysia.

all these three are Dell P/N for the 500W psu with 6 pin and 2x4 pin for Inspiron G5 5090, XPS 8940, Optiplex 7080.

5K7J8 500w Delta
99TPH 500w Liteon
Y7R0X 500w Chicony

buy from a vendor that has good buyer review and return policy.

this company does not seem to have good review.

Thanks @redxps630.

I also saw their facebook account a while ago and found those reviews.

I will try to search at ebay and aliexpress. The hard part is confirming the actual power supply unit they have against the picture of the item they posted. Everyone seems to be using the same picture.

Re: Dell 500W H500EGM with Dell P/N VM8KR. The connectors were correct but the 12V rail ratings were not the same as the D500EPM, and is 80 Plus Bronze only.

It seems VM8KR (360w psu) label has been hijacked.  better use of user time not chase these wild geese down and uncover what some dubious seller deals are.  Dell did not pay us to investigate fraud.
Stay with the only three official Dell DP/N released by Dell-Chris M.

This one on eBay may be real stock picture.  Seller has 100% feedback.

Here is another authentic 500W sitting inside XPS 8940.  This is original Dell stock spec.

I have seen those pictures in Shopee app (online shopping platform in Southeast Asia). The seller gave me the picture of a Dell 500W H500EGM with Dell P/N VM8KR. The connectors were correct but the 12V rail ratings were not the same as the D500EPM, and is 80 Plus Bronze only.

That is the one who sent me a picture of the power supply with sticker label indicating Dell P/N Y7ROX (with letter 'O').

Some of the vendor ads are fishy. Pictures can not be authenticated.

Use D500EPM-00 may be more reliable than the myriad 5 alphanumeric DP/N.

this label picture from another eBay seller looks more like real

to those users who want to buy the Dell 500W psu and for some reason did not get it on original order, only the Delta psu 5K7J8 500w Delta is known to be 80 plus platinum.226.jpg

Dell has not released info on the efficiency of Liteon and Chicony 500W psu.

Y7R0X 500w Chicony

there is no label page of the Liteon available.  If anyone has one it would be nice to share.  The chicony psu label is quite abbreviated and not helpful.

if you go on Dell 8940 order page now, only 500W gold is listed.  This makes one wonder whether the Delta unit is out of stock, and users have limited option currently.

Third party vendor still sell the Delta unit although it is a bit pricy.  On the other hand, ordering directly from Dell if it is even possible price may be premium.  It is possible that Dell is saving these rare psu for users who purchase the complete unit, especially the Special Edition 8940 (white).

Re: Dell 500W H500EGM VM8KR

Dell-Chris M said

“Those 3rd party site data does not match the SPMD =

VM8KR = 360W Chicony, Optiplex XE3”

“All we can go by is the validated/tested PSU in the Dell SPMD (Spare Parts Master Database). We cannot speak to any other PSU not on the list.”
