Does Dell G5 5000 Case Orientation Impact Cooling?

I have a Dell G5 5000 all original stock parts that I have had on a table (case vertical) since I purchased it a few years ago.  Thinking about moving furniture around which would require putting the case on its side.  The only vents are front and back so it seems okay from that standpoint but not sure if the case needs to be upright so that airflow works as designed.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Any system that is designed to be placed on its side will have the rubber feet attaching to the support side panel.

While you still can operate on its side, take into consideration of other risk of cosmetic damages beside cooling.  Just like when opening up a computer, obvious orientation will be keeping the removeable panel side up and placing motherboard side on the bottom.

No place to stand the case vertically on the floor instead of vertically on a table?

Running horizontally may depend on which side is up. See the exploded system view here.

Probably want the motherboard side down and fans up. Otherwise, since hot air rises, the heat will be trapped against the motherboard when that side is up, and fans, down at the bottom, may not be efficient.

If you do this, you might want to install one of various free apps which monitor temps and then keep an eye them if running horizontally, eg, Speccy etc...

Thanks - great advice!  It sounds like it may not be worth the risk and I may have to use a different set of shelves that has room for the case to be vertical.

Thanks for the insight that if the case doesn't have feet on the side, it's probably not designed for horizontal placement!  I'm going to find a different shelf that lets me keep the tower oriented vertically!
