Dell Business Multimedia Keyboard - KB522
Dear Sir/Madam, I have disassembled the keyboard to clean it, since it was very dirty. But I did not pay attention to the order of the pieces where the plastic cards with electronic circuits are connected. Now when I connect the usb cable of the keyboard to the pc, the pc makes a sound and recognizes the keyboard, but the keyboard does not work, no keys work anymore. I checked online, but I found no guide, no instruction on how these parts are to be installed. Could you send me photos and a description of the correct order of how to connect the plastic cards with the electronic circuits to the two connectors underlined in red in the attached pictures please. Thank you, Mau |

This is a user-to-user forum and we don't have access to such info.
That keyboard is only ~US$23 so it's not very expensive to replace...

Hi Mau, I have exactly the same issue and am desperately looking for some help.
Is there anyone out there with a bit more compassion than Ron the Rockstar?
The solution is surely quite simple - if you know how Some support here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Reinsert the USB wire header first.
Place the three translucent printed circuits PCBs on top of the controller board.
Place the plastic membrane on top of the printed circuits PCBs.
Finally, place the thin piece of bracketing metal on top and securing with 2 Phillip screws.

Thanks Chino de Oro, I think both Mau and I are unsure of the sequence and orientation of the components that secure the printed circuits together, as in your photo. Mine has a metal bar, a rubberised bar and a clear plastic bar but its not obvious which sequence they fit together in.

I found a second-hand keyboard for 5 dollars so i bought it just to find out the correct order of the components. Despite I have correctly reassembled the keyboard, some key surprisingly does not work or sometimes none of them is working, and I can find out it only after i have reassembled it and secured all the screws. I have disassembled and reassembled so many times, that I am fed up. I also cleaned with a soft microfiber cloth the 3 translucent plastic layers with the electric circuits, to eventually remove some dust or dirty that could have created some malfunction on some key. But it has not solved the issue. Once you disassembly it, you are in trouble. Even if you will reassemble it correctly, some keys will not work. Probably this is a strategy to oblige people keep buying new items even when is not necessary. I disassembled it just for cleaning the keyboard after many years of daily usage.

The contact circuits must be cleaned and evenly pressured on the controller board. After everything was lining up, apply only enough torque on 2 screws, not too loose, not too tight.
There is only so much a user can do. Not all devices are serviceable. When too much time and effort spent without a satisfaction result, it's wiser to treat yourself a new board.
