Using Open Migrator LM on a 4 node Windows 2008 R2 Cluster

Hopefully I can get some assistance with the Open Migrator/LM product.  I am more of a Windows guy and we have a storage team that handles EMC side of things, but they are stumped on this as well. Here is the situation

4- Windows 2008 R2 cluster nodes currently hosting numerous File servers on a DMX3.  We need to move over to our new VMAX disks

Using native Windows MPIO (no Powerpath anymore)

Shadow Copies Disabled

We did a test migration with a small disk with limited data.  The migration completed without error.

Our first attempt with a production File system migration did get errors.  We started the migration and the data was copied and Insync Verfied.

At the end of the migration, I got an error stating that the mount points could not be switched to the new drive and to contact EMC.

The data was moved to the new disk, and the drive letter swapped.  Windows Cluster MMC shows that the new disk was being used, so that part went fine.

However, we were left with the old drive still showing up in the Cluster MMC, and the disk descriptor for the new (now production) drive was still labeled as "OM Target of Cluster Disk "X".

So the Open Migrator did not complete the migration on its own. I had to go in and manually delete the drive form the available cluster storage and rename the descriptors on the disk.

I tried contacting EMC support, but they said they didnt know what was wrong (what?!?!).  They thought some process had the disk locked, but I cannto see how as I shut down the Name, IP, Shares & Backup software prior to the migration.

Any help????

Thanks!

Most of the issues we see in support for migration failures of volumes are usually caused by applications or services that have an exclusive lock on a volume. Thats not to say that this has caused your problem. I am sorry that you were unable to resolve your previous issue with EMC support.

Unfortunately it's not something that I believe I can tell you what may have caused your issue without reviewing log files and the procedure you used to migrate.

Could you email me offline your case number, and I can certainly look further into it for you.

Regards, Michel.
