looks ok ..just for test ..create another map file with the same content. I wonder if there is some kind of invalid character in your map file ? From what you have posted so far ..it should work.

pctech321 are you using Solution Enabler 6.4 or later ??

could you please change the script slightly ??

county1/root: /home/sun > more maplun.02272008
map dev 04EF to dir 14B:1 lun=081;

change it and add a "," between the dir and the lun...

map dev 04EF to dir 14B:1, lun=081;

Maybe the parser is fooled from the presence/absence of a comma ..

Could you also post a snip from the symapi-20080227.log file that details the failing symconfigure ??

my 2 poor cents .. :D

yes , i put the "," still the same result \\\

i check the log file , here is the snip

02/28/2008 10:12:48.396 83586 1 EMC:SYMCLI cfgCheckAS400Mapping For AS400 fibre mapping , ARB port flag cannot be set if patch 23416 applied
02/28/2008 10:12:48.396 83586 SymConfigChange Define error in dfn 1:
02/28/2008 10:12:48.396 83586 map dev 04EF to dir 14B:1, lun=081;
02/28/2008 10:12:48.396 83586 The port flag settings are not correct for mapping to the specified hos t.
02/28/2008 10:12:49.741 83586 Terminating session with configuration server.............Done.

from log i figure it out that its an AS400 drive .....but my coleague try to assign that one to open system , even i check the symdev show xxxxxx , it clearly indiacting emulation type is AS400 ..
so prob is fixed ...

thank you so much guys for ur replies.

i did not capture that exactly.. is the AS400 emulation cause the problem or the fix is AS400 emulation?

They were trying to map an "as400" volume on a "non-as400" port. At least that's what I understood ;-)
