Has symioctl fallen from grace ??

Hi all,

Following on from my earlier query, support in Cork suggested a read of the latest (1.1) version of "Oracle Databases on EMC Symmetrix Storage Systems Solutions Guide".

In almost 300 pages, there isn't a single mention of symioctl.

I know it's still there in SE 6.3 and 6.4, but one wonders if it's outlived its usefulness when, for example "alter database begin backup" in Oracle 10g puts all tablespaces into hot backup mode for you. This wasn't available in Oracle 8/9 hence symioctl to the rescue.

What do you think ?

Cheers,

Nick

You are right, symioctl has outlived its usefulness at least in the SQL Server world.Refer to ecm146682 knowledgebase document."Symioctl freeze no longer is entered in Win2K3 SQL2005 log" EMC advices to use TSIM

In reference to using Symioctl with Windows Server 2003 and SQL2005,you need to install EMC VSS provider v 3.2.1 for it to work.
