Consistency Group 6.2.0 and SUSPEND

Greetings.

Our CG recently suspended with messages that left us somewhat nonplussed. What we're seeing is:

CGRP999I ISSUE SUSPEND OFFPEND FOR CGROUP LH01 ON CUU A8C0
CGRP999I I/O COMPLETED FOR CUU A8C0 R15=00000000 SUSPRC=17000006

We're trying to find out what exactly the 2nd message is trying to tell us and we cannot find an explanation of the codes. True, the R15 looks fine but what about that SUSPRC-code? I searched the Knowledgebase but couldn't find anything about this particular code. Everything looks fine now and no messages have been logged bij the Host Component.

Our environment: ResourcePak Base 5.5.0 > SF55061
ConsistencyGroup 6.2.0 > SC62017.

Greetings Willhelm,

I did knowledgebase search on this and it took some tinkering with the KB Search facility but I found 4 related solutions which may be topical. In direct answer to your question, I found your 2nd message in EMC160277 -

I've copied / pasted the cause & fix statements here:

The number of device ranges allowed in an 8133 syscall was exceeded, but not flagged as an error. A ConGroup currently uses a single syscall to suspend a group. This syscall is built at startup or refresh time, and was built with more ranges than allowed by the microcode. This PTF fails the syscall build if more than 512 device ranges are attempted. A new message is now issued if this situation arises: CGRP216E Number of device ranges exceeds 512. The congroup enable at startup or refresh will fail with this message.

This is fixed by PTF SC62020.

The last modification was on 08/17/07. I also found a very close match where R15 has 00000048 which spawned an ETA EMC15673 that's "close enough" to warrant mentioning here.

I found these by performing the Powerlink Search from the main powerlink page, entering 'cgrp999i'. That brought up a list with links on the left including "Support Solutions(7)" - that reduced the results to only knowledgebase entries.

This is not a product I typically am called upon to support

I would obtain all known current maintenance for the product, and potentially open a service request raising this issue to one of our subject matter experts to determine if you need any other information or patches.

Hope this helps.
