Can we split the devices when RDF pair is in consistent state.
We established the rdf pair last week, Now the DBAs wants to validate the data on remote devices. devices are in async mode and consistent state.
No write operations are occuring on the source devices right now. Can I go ahead and split the devices for them to do the validation process?
Please let me know, if the devices needs to be in synchronized state before i split them. Also, i would like to know the difference between synchronized state and consistent state.
When i change the mode to "acp_disk", i see the RDF pair state as synchronized.
please reply soon. Thanks in advance.

As santhosh and Stefano have already stated, the ideal state to be in before splitting is in async mode and consistent.
When you are in acp_disk mode the best you can hope for is a synchronized state. Consistent state in async mode is actually one step better than that... when you are consistent, you can be certain that all the R2 devices in your group are actually synched up to a consistent point in time from the R1s.
So, you had what you needed, it was just an understanding thing. In async mode you will only see devices in a group in synchronized state if one or more devices are still SynchInProg.
