Adding to SRDF AIX HACMP cluster

We have an 2 AIX HACMP clusters that are connected via SRDF. We need to add disk to the environment and are looking for suggestions on the best way to do this.

An description of our environment:

Site 1: Server-A (Active HACMP), Server-B (Active HACMP); Configuration is such that the application runs on A & B (each with their own disk), but either A or B can accommodate the entire environment through HACMP failover-- both hosts have access to the same disk.

Site 2: Server-C & Server D (HACMP configured but not running); R2 link recipient for the Site 1 side. This acts as our Disaster Recovery site and is intended as a mirror of Site 1.

i.e.
Server A & B ----- R1 SAN -------- SRDF -------- R2 SAN ----- Server C & D

We need to add additional SRDF'd SAN to the entire environment with minimal downtime, and we would strongly prefer testing things on the DR (Server C & D) environment first.

Thoughts?

Hello!

I dont understand all parts.

Question:
You want to add new disks to the new environment or you want to install
another SRDF link or SAN? (Not the same thing)

Tips for disk adding to both side:
1. Add disk to R2 side (Symmetrix configuration, zoning, masking)
2. On the C,D host do the LVM configuration. (cfgmgr, add disks to the volume group)
3. Add disk to the R2 volume group (symcli commands)
4. Add disk to R1 side (Symmetrix configuration, zoning, masking)
5. Downtime!
Stop the resource group on R1 and add disk to volume group.
(Maybe it can be do online, but safer if you stop the app for a half hour)
6. Start the app on the R1 side.
7. Add volume to the R1 group. (solution enabler commands)
8. Sync the R1 and R2 volumes.

Paul
