Add a new meta DEV /BCV to an existing BCV mirror group

Hi,

I have a BCV group bcvA99 with 4 DEV and 4BCV pair. I like to append a new DEV/BCV into the existing group? Is it possible and how should I do it?

You advise and pointer is appreciated.

regards
Tuck Chuan

sure,

symld -g bcvA99 add dev 1234-sid 123
symbcv -g bcvA99 add dev 4321-sid 123

i like to pre-sync my STD and BCV before i place them in my production device groups. Since i have scripts running against device groups, i want like to make sure that devices in the current device group and the new ones i am adding are in the same state (Split or Synchronized)

So you create a pairfile (a line for each pair, STD at left, BCV at right) and use symmir with option -f to establish them before throwing them in the DG, am I correct ?? :-)

i could do that ..i just create a temp DG..sync them up and then move them to production DG.

I always use files. Those are so much easier to use......

[strikethrough]I just saw that you already answered my question in another thread. Thanks.[/strikethrough]

Question remains: I misread the other answer in that other thread....

So do I .. but there are options .. and it's very nice to know that we can choose !! :-)

There is always something to learn .. everywhere !!

It's beautifull to find different answers to same problems .. :D

And then again: with BCVs I use files. I'd like to use files as well for SRDF. Any ideas how to do that ? I tried in a similar way, but the syntax seems different or even impossible at all....

What do you mean with "I want to use files" ??

When you create pairs you need the "pairfile" .. All other symrdf commands allows you to specify the devices by different means...

1) via a DG (the good old usual way)
2) via a CG (if you have multiple boxes involved)
3) via files

You can always use files, given that you supply symrdf with all the needed informations .. :)

symrdf -rdfg xxx -sid yyy -file pairfile [suspend|resume|split|failover|failback|set mode=acp_disk|set mode async|set mode sync|almost whatever you may think]

That last line answers my question. I guess I must have mistyped the command or something, because it looks similar to the symmir commands I'm already using with "pair files".

file based
symmir -f RMAN-CATALOG-TXT establish -full -sid xxxx
symmir -f temp.txt -sid xxxx est -full

Exisitng groups

symmir -g ifrmd0pb_log establish -full
symmir -g ifrmd0pb_log est
