Storage Path Optimization for Internet of Things

Internet of Things (IoT) is a global inter-connection for devices, objects and things that contain embedded technologies to sense, communicate and interact. IoT is a key enabler for many emerging and future “smart” applications and technology shifts in various technology markets, ranging from the connected consumer to smart homes/buildings, e-health, smart grids, next-generation manufacturing and smart cities.

With the huge number of devices/things introduced in the industries above, IoT becomes more promising. However, since billions of things will have an IP address and connect to a network, IoT aggregates many domains in one network – i.e. medical industry, automotive, public sector, consumer devices, transportation, and more – creating an IoT bottleneck.

In this Knowledge Sharing article, Mohamed Sohail and Mohamed EsamIn discuss ways to address the challenges that IoT bottlenecks present through lab exercises and real world scenarios that aim to reduce dependence on the Internet to upload data generated by IoT devices, which minimizes upload delay.
