Powerconnect 8024 LAG\Stack Design Question

So my basic question boils down to 'Is it a requirement for me to create a Stack\LAG with my two powerconnect switches'? Here's why I ask this question. We are using a Cisco UCS chassis which is network attached to a Cisco Nexus 7009, I have one powerconnect in production today which is also uplinked via 10GB to the Cisco Nexus 7009. We have two equallogic arrays that are direct attached to the one existing power connect switch. All of my SAN hosts except two will be ESX hosts running in the Cisco UCS chassis. So I to put my remaining power connect switch into production, but given our current environment, do I need to 'stack' the switches or create a LAG between them? My thought is to leave them independently uplinked to our core Cisco Nexus 7009, which should provide switch redundancy in case of a failure...any thoughts?

This discusses the use of the Virtual PortChannel (vPC) that provides the ability to reduce the spanning tree footprint and the ability to configure a Link Aggregation Group (LAG).
