using PS m4110 with 12 drives

Hello,

I'm having difficulties with Blade storage PS m4110 setup. I've got two drives failed and would like to rebuild the RAID with 12 drives. Run storage full storage 'reset'. After storage initial setup in command line I'm trying to create RAID and receiving an error saying all disks should be added. There is a same message in command line as well. I'm pretty sure I was able to use partly populated PS6110 and other models.

gb3-grp07(member_lgb3-grp07)> raid-policy raid6
% Error - You cannot configure RAID on this array unless the system is fully
populated with drives. Add more drives to fully populate the system.

Has anybody faced that issue with PSm4110? I could not find any document with support disk layout for that model.

it is running V7.1.14

regards, Andrey

Hello Andrey,

With the PS m4110 you need to have 14 drives.  The system will not work with just 12 drives.  https://dell.to/3wNvJrD

Thank you Sam, I appreciate the quick answer.

This is really a bummer - the storage is configured to use SED and I'm having troubles to obtain such drives from DELL or from the market. Even refurbished EQL SED drives can be considered an exotic.

Can you recommend any way to use this array without throwing all SED drives and replacing it with regular drives? Will I be able to create a mixed configuration adding 4 SSDs? What model will be good for such configuration?

regards, Andrey

Hello Andrey,

You can use regular equallogic drives in your PS m4110.  However to do so you will need to reinitialize your system.
