If you havent done that create an empty pool called "default" or "maint". Add the new guy to your group and placed it into that pool. Finish the setup and configure it in the right way, make your tests and perform the FW upgrade to your 8.x.
Test again because during the FW upgrade the controller changed and new switch ports are used.
After the raid build is finished move the member into your production pool.
