ME4024 replacing existing 10K SAS Volumes with SSD Volumes.

Hi,

I would appreciate any help you can provide, confirming if I'm following the correct process & not missing any steps. I want to replace 2*SAS 10K Disk Pools with 2*SSD Disk Pools on a live Hyper-V Cluster using a PowerVault ME4024.

Current Setup                          New Setup

Pool 1: 5*SSD SAS 1.92TB                      Pool 1: 5*SSD SAS 1.92TB

Plan:

1. In Failover Cluster Manager Move all VMs/Data off LUN 102: "SAS10K-VOL-2" onto the other volumes
2. In Failover Cluster Manager select “Take Offline” & then “Remove from Cluster Shared Volumes”
  LUN 100: Cluster-Quorum-VOL-0
  LUN 102: SAS10K-VOL-2
3.  In ME4024 PowerVault Manager Remove Dedicated Hot Spare for "Pool 2: 8*10K SAS 2.4TB"
4. In ME4024 PowerVault Manager Remove Mapping for:
  LUN 100: Cluster-Quorum-VOL-0
  LUN 102: SAS10K-VOL-2
5. In ME4024 PowerVault Manager Delete Volumes:
  LUN 100: "Cluster-Quorum-VOL-0"
  LUN 102: "SAS10K-VOL-2"
6. In ME4024 PowerVault Manager Delete "Pool 2: 8*10K SAS 2.4TB"
7. Physically remove 9*10K SAS 2.4TB

8. Insert 7*3.84TB SAS SSD into Locations 0.6-0.12
9. Create Pool "SSD-VOL-2"
   Raid 6  Location 0.6 to 0.11
10. Create Volume "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM-TEMP"  2GB
Lun 104   Linear  write-back Optimization: standard  Read-ahead Size: Adaptive  Ports: 0,1,2,3
11. Create Mapping "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM-TEMP" LUN 104

12. Log onto all Hosts and click Rescan within Disk Management
13. Check Failover Cluster Manager can see new CSV
14. Check Failover Cluster Manager & ME4024 PowerVault Manager for alerts/warnings
15. Assuming all looks OK Move Quorum to "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM-TEMP" LUN 104
16. "Validate Cluster" & confirm using "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM-TEMP" for Quorum

17. Remove Mapping "Cluster-Quorum-VOL-0" LUN 100
18. Delete Volume "Cluster-Quorum-VOL-0" LUN 100

19. Create Volume "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM" LUN 100   2GB
Lun 100   Linear  write-back Optimization: standard  Read-ahead Size: Adaptive  Ports: 0,1,2,3
20. Create Mapping "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM" LUN 100 to:

21. Log onto Hosts and click Rescan within Disk Management
22. Check Failover Cluster Manager can see new CSV
23. Check Failover Cluster Manager & ME4024 PowerVault Manager for alerts/warnings
24. Assuming all looks OK Move Quorum to "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM" LUN 100
25. "Validate Quorum Configuration" & confirm using "CSG-SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM" for Quorum

26. Remove Mapping "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM-TEMP" LUN 100
27. Delete Volume "SAN-001-CLUSTER-QUORUM-TEMP" LUN 100

28. Create Volume "SSD-VOL-2"
Lun 102   Linear  write-back Optimization: standard  Read-ahead Size: Adaptive  Ports: 0,1,2,3
29. Create Mapping "SSD-VOL-2" LUN 102 to:

30. Add Dedicated Spare Location 0.12
31. Log onto Hosts and click Rescan within Disk Management
32. Check Failover Cluster Manager can see new CSV
33. Check Failover Cluster Manager & ME4024 PowerVault Manager for alerts/warnings
34. Assuming all looks OK perform a Disk Scrub
35. Assuming Disk Scrub successfully completes, Test Storage by Migrating 1 VM Storage onto "SSD-VOL-2", once migrated reboot and test connectivity (RDP & ping www.bbc.co.uk)
36. Migrate remaining VM storage to "SSD-VOL-2"

Repeat for LUN 102: "SAS10K-VOL-3"

Many Thanks in advance,
David
