USB Drivers Work but NOT Recognized

I recently had a keyboard error on my system which resulted in 1 of my USB Drivers being uninstalled automatically. The system is unable to find the driver(s) from Device Manager. I have uninstalled all USB drivers & roots via Device Manager rebooted w/out success and reinstalled XP Operating System which resulted in an additional USB driver loss. My ipod charges in USB ports so I know they're functioning and diagnostics fails to show any errors. My sound works only on headset when plugged into the tower port but not via my speakers. Can anyone assist me in how to find and reinstall Intel(R)82801EB USB Universal Host Controller-24DD & Intel(R) 82801EB USB Universal Host Controller-24D5? I just want my sound back.

Sounds like you forgot to install the chipset driver, and maybe your sound card driver too, when you reinstalled XP. Typical reinstallation order is:
XP
chipset driver
video driver
audio driver
network driver
etc.

Download them from Dell's drivers&download page for your model system. Boot in safe mode to install the chipset driver. Then reboot and install the other missing drivers.

I attempted to reinstall the chipset for my computer to no avail. The installation requires you must select "Open" vs. "Save" to install but I'm not given the option to do so. When I attempt to save the execution a pop-up reports "The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) Could Not Be Installed - System cannot find the file specified.

Hold the Flag key down and tap R, in the run box type    sfc /scannow    space between c   and   /
Hit OK, have your XP cd handy, it may ask for it, this is a system file checker, it will take some time to complete and will give no report on what was done if anything, run it and see if anything changes for you.

I've updated Service Pack2 & performed the suggested sfc Scan with no change. :( From what I've read this is a common problem with no sure fire solution. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, the silence is killing me.

Something isn't right about the way you tried to install the chipset driver. You never mentioned your PC model, so I can't give you a link to the right chipset driver for this system, or to see if there's a version of Desktop System Software required.

Click the chipset driver link on Dell's site to download and save it on your desktop. Reboot in Safe Mode (F8 before XP starts to load). Double-click the chipset to install it. Reboot normally.

And read this about that installshield error message:
