New to DVD Recordable Drives.

Hello, Instead of me sitting here & scratching my head trying to figure this out, is the only way to back up data to a dvd is to go through a program (MCE for ex.)? I can't select a folder & paste it to my DVD drive w/ dvd media in drive. I can w/ regular cd-r media. As mentioned above, I can burn data on it using MCE. I'm new to using dvd recordable drives so please exuse the ignorance.
Thanx for your time.  Jim

Jim:

The answer is, You cannot use the Windows CD burning wizard to burn files to DVD media. You should have a program such as Roxio or Sonic Recordnow preinstalled on your system for writing data to DVD blank media.

Thanx for the replies...
No, it did not come w/ any software,..it came installed on my system..its an  internal drive. And  my system came w/ that software(Sonic) preinstalled on my system but I since reformatted hd & lost all programs..& restore utility, although I did image that partition(restore utility..i think...Is that the one thats 4 + Gigs?) to my secondary hd...but don't know what to do w/ it. And I refuse to deal w/ Dell techs regarding backup cd's. Anyway, thanx again for the replies...I guess I'll have to purchase software.  Oh, btw, does anyone know where I can get a reliable free DVD decoder for my MCE ?...( LimeWire   ; )  ) Thanx for your time.  Jim
