Inspiron 530 desktop will not boot and makes repeating beeping sounds

My Inspiron 530 desktop (about 4 years old) will not boot up but makes repeating beeping sounds - four beeps that repeat.  What causes this problem? Any suggestions about how to correct it?

Hi PenBayGuy,

4 beep sounds in Inspiron 530 indicate system's failure to 'read or write the RAM'. Please try the following troubleshooting steps to fix the issue:

1. Drain out the residual power
- Power off your computer
- Please unplug all cables/connections from the tower (Isolate it completely)
- Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain out the residual power
- Release the power button
- Plug the power cable, monitor cable, keyboard and mouse back into the tower
- Try powering on the computer and re-check

2. If the previous steps does not work, try re-seating each memory module
Remove all memory modules and re-seat each module one by one to isolate the memory that has gone bad (One that does not work). This troubleshooting step involves opening up of the tower. If you feel comfortable with it, please use the steps listed below:

Before re-seating the memory modules from the system please follow the below mentioned safety instructions:
- During installation or removal of any hardware, always turn off the system and ensure all data is backed up properly
- Disconnect any telephone, network, and USB cables from the computer
- Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

Remove the two screws securing the cover
Note: The first time the system is opened you must use a standard Philips head screw driver to loosen the thumb screw. When replacing the screws hand tighten only. This allows the screws to operate as thumb-screws not requiring a tool to remove in the future.

Release the cover by pulling it away from the front of the computer

Remove the cover from the system

Press open the securing clip at each end of the memory module connector

Slide the memory module up to remove it from the system

3. If re-seating memory modules does not work, try swapping each memory module into a different slot on the system board. Try only one module at a time. This step will help us isolate if the issue is with a memory module or the system board. Also try installing a known good memory module into the various slots to pin-point either the module or system board slot causing the problem

Do reply with the findings. I would be glad to assist.
