Hi
Dell Online live chat support told me yesterday that maximum is 16GB RAM - i.e. 2x8GB.
The system analysis tool in the PC actually says 32GB maximum.
What is really the case please as I too want to upgrade memory to the maximum to allow good use of things such as Photoshop.
Thanks

Max is 8GB. Period!!
You can install two 4GB modules. According to the original specs the supported memory sizes are 1GB, 2GB, 4GB. So I doubt 8GB modules will work let alone the 16GB ones. Moreover, Your laptop supports Intel HM57 Chipset which supports only upto 8GB.
So I doubt that your laptop will recognize above 8GB. But hey if you are willing to take a gamble and try to exceed the max limit that'd be good. You won't harm your laptop except you may have to RMA the memory if it doesn't work, so that'd would be time consuming. If it works out then i'd proved wrong and it will help others too.
For photoshop 8GB should be enough unless you are with working high volumes of data at a time.

Just one quick question before I go buy some ram for it?
8gb is the max it will take? Just wondering because win7 64 bit will run a lot more , and the machine is 64bit so is it a hardware limitation of 8gb?

Yes, I agree windows 7 64Bit versions can support more memory like the Premium and ultimate versions however it is not the OS limitation. As you have guessed, it is the hardware limitation. So max is 8GB. Good luck with the upgrade!!

I challenge the solution of "8GB is maximum amount of memory." I have 16GB installed and recognized by Windows 7 Ultimate. The only reason I stumbled across this thread was because my Dell SupportAssist is reporting "16GB of 32GB supported". I think the only reason I upgraded to 16GB from 8GB was because the SupportAssist reported "8GB of 16GB supported". I've searched for any documentation to say 16GB of memory but I haven't found it yet. I might get brave and go purchase 2X16GB just to test it. Let me know if anyone finds any documentation.

Hi, i just ran into that same question with my Dell Inspiron One 2310 using Intel HM57 Chipset with a P6100 2.00 Ghz CPU. Which specific system did you have?

I had the Intel PCH H61 chipset with an I5-2400S @ 2.50GHz. I haven't had the money to test it but, I recently refreshed the system info and now its telling e the "Maximum OS Memory is 192.00 GB". Maybe I'll just go ahead and take the computer's word on it.....
