Dell Inspiron 530 regular tower - Power shows amber light
Hi;
Hopefully someone can help me here, as I am stuck.
A few weeks ago my parents computer, Dell Inspiron 530 (not slimline) just died. If you pressed the power button, it would turn orange, but nothing would happen, fans weren't running or anything.
After taking everything apart and testing, the issue seemed to be the motherboard. I replaced that, and when I put everything back together and started it up and this time, the power button still showed an amber light but the fans started running this time. I figured it was better than before but possible the CPU was toast. So I replaced the CPU, and no change.
So, currently when it is plugged in, everything turns on, fans spin (but never stop), power light on the front is orange, power light on mother board lights up and is orange, and the light on the back where the power plugs in is green.
I'm stuck as to what could be wrong? Could it be the power supply? That seems to be the only other thing that comes up when I tried searching, but since power is getting to the motherboard and everything is kicking in, I'm not sure I understand what is the deal...

To add more information, I can turn it off by holding the power button, there is no beeping noises, and I can open and close the dvd drive no problem.

The Processor rarely fails.
Is the power button LED, Steady Amber, or a Blinking Amber?
Are there any 'Beeps', or error messages, if there are, please post the exact text of the message?
Does the power supply fan run?
Is there a discrete graphics card installed, or are you using the integrated graphics?
The Inspiron 530 Troubleshooter and Diagnostic Codes are HERE.

Thanks for following up, The power button is steady amber, no beeps, and when I plug it into the monitor nothing shows up.
Power fans are running.
There is a separate graphics card, I've tried with and without it, I've also tried removing all the RAM and just trying one at a time, but nothing different happens.

Have you tried removing the PCIe x16 graphics card and connecting the monitor directly to the integrated graphic's VGA connector on the backpanel, to see if this makes a difference?
No difference, try the following, if you are comfortable working around computers:
Note: The only 100% method of testing a PSU, is to install a known working power supply.
Unplug the cord from the power supply, hold the power button in for about 15/20 seconds, open the case, unplug the 24-pin power connector from the motherboard and jump the Green wire to one of the Black wires, reconnect the power cord and power the system, if power supply's fan and the hard drive run, then the PSU should be good.
Note: Do not remove any wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a jumper.
Power supply checks out, again remove the power cord, hold the power button in for several seconds to discharge the residue power, reconnect the 24-pin connector to the motherboard.
Remove all PCI cards from the system, take out the video card [if applicable], disconnect all peripherals and the power & data cables from all drives.
Reconnect the power cord and power system on, see if you get a different LED indication on the power button, or 'Beeps'.
No difference, remove the memory from the system and try again.
Still shows no signs of life then you are looking at a motherboard replacement & maybe a processor.
Note: the processor rarely fails.
Note: The only method I know of checking a checking a processor, is to install it a compatible working PC, or use a known working processor.
