Can I replace Dell wireless mouse with Microsoft mouse?

Hi,

I just got a Dell 4700 with the wireless keyboard and mouse. However, I already own a wireless Microsoft mouse which I prefer to the Dell. Is it possible to use the Microsoft wireless mouse with the Dell base unit?

I tried pressing the Connect button on the MS mouse and then the Connect button on the Dell base unit, but that didn't help.

Isn't there some sort of wireless standard which would let you use a different wireless mouse with your base unit?

Thanks

Chances are the mouse and it's base unit have a "matched" frequency in which they communicate to each other.  This could be why the mixing of mices and base units didn't work as the mice are using a different frequency.

I figured they are using different frequencies, but I thought that the Connect button on each unit would force some sort of frequency scan until the mouse and base unit got in synch. But it didn't work. Does anyone know if you should be able to mix mice and base units?
