4600: Is there a quieter OEM PSU unit?

Instead of getting used to after 1+ year, I find myself getting annoyed by the fan noise created by the PSU fan. Is there a quieter OEM unit that I can just plug and play and not have to worry about BIOS errors or having to mess around w/ the PSU internals? Part # & price would be appreciated if such exists. :smileyhappy:

Considering the problems with the OEM PSUs in the 4600s, you might be better served just going to NewEgg.com and getting a new PSU. I swapped mine out Friday and it was a no-brainer.

Mine is a 450W Rosewill, but unlike some other Dells (apparently) the 4600 takes a standard one. You have many, many options.

The specific one I got is this: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817182018

And you didn't experience any BIOS startup problems or any other problems?  If not which PSU did you get if you don't mind me asking.

The PSU has nothing to do with the BIOS. Its just power.

Sweet.  Thanks!  I'll look into it some of the different options.  My main concern is avoiding the BIOS startup problems that a lot of people seem to have experienced on this board by using non-OEM PSU's.

Not really.  Dell uses proprietary PSUs and when some people on this board have switched to aftermarket brands they get a "Fan failure" error right on start up.

Hmmm, upon further inspection, yeah it seems like I was confusing the two.  Thanks for pointing that out!

Nono that happens when they replace the CPU fan not the PSU.

n/m, found some that don't need the adapter.

Oh man, I wish I had read about these fan issues before I ordered a new fan as a longshot fix to my shutdown problems. No way do I want to mess with the hassle of splicing fan wires when it probably won't solve my issue anyway. :(
