OME v4 not emailing alerts

Sending a test email works fine, but OME is not emailing alerts as it did in previous versions. I even set up a test policy that would email everything to me, but nothing is getting sent out. They are not even hitting our spam appliance (I confirmed OME can ping it).

Update:

We're thinking that something with the SMTP and Discovery job settings didn't get migrated correctly. For some reason the existing Discovery job kept changing the Managed State of servers to "Monitored" but a new job is correctly assigning them "Managed with Alerts." To fix the email issue, I had to change the SMTP server from the FQDN to IP address, after that everything is working again.

Hi,

I remembered you from another post. I'll assume you deployed OME from OVF fresh. Hence, configuration wise you have redone it since you mentioned the test email is working fine. Have you enabled the debugging log in TUI, did the logs show any traces if the alert were sent out?

Hi Joey,

I enabled debug logging and sent a test SNMP from an iDRAC, I downloaded the logs but do you know what location I can find those events?

Hello KevinA-REJIS,

When you Discovered did you check the box to enable trap reception?

Step 8 page 84

Also verify your settings :

Hi Charles,

We imported the settings from our previous OME 3.10 appliance, I double-checked and everything looks like it is still configured correctly. I do see the SNMP test message alert in OME, but it's not emailing them to me.

Hello KevinA-REJIS,

Could you try set up a new alert following this video and check results?

Hi Charles,

I previously created a test policy that would email all SNMP alerts to me, and I used the same steps as that video. I just tried changing the target device group, and changed the target email to a gmail account, but no change with either. OME is configured to send emails to our spam appliance, which then routes them internally. The test email shows up, but no other email traffic is being logged from OME.

Hello KevinA-REJIS,

See if this article can help:

How to Configure Alerts and Troubleshoot Alerts in OpenManage Enterprise

https://dell.to/3GaKZG3

If no email is received, then this indicates an email server configuration issue.

Under Application Settings > Alerts > Email Configuration, check the email server configuration.

Ensure that IP is correct, port is correct, and credentials are correct. Switch Authentication and SSL for testing.

I might recommend contact Support directly and ask for Systems Management department and an engineer can get a look with you.

@GeertC

Hi GeertC,

I was out of the office all last week so didn't get a chance to work further on it. I opened a support case with Dell, I'll post the results once we get it figured out.

@KevinA-REJIS

For me the fix was , to change the SMTP address from FQDN to IP.
I left the IP for several day, then when i changed it back to FQDN it kept working :-)

I had the same issue following a successful migration, and it was very puzzling. After finding this solution, within Application Settings > Alerts > Email Configuration, I added some characters to the end of what I had in 'SMTP Server Network Address', Applied, then changed it back to normal. Emails came in after that! Thanks.
