OME not able to reliably perform graceful shutdown on Windows servers
The only way I can get firmware updated to work reliably with OME is if I select the "stage for next server reboot" option and then reboot the server manually.
OME is just not able to reliably perform graceful restarts on my Windows servers (R6515). Everything is up to date and the service module is installed.
If I select 'graceful restart without forced shutdown' then the job fails with a 'host didn't restart' message - if I select 'graceful restart with forced shutdown' then it hard resets the server and that makes Windows unhappy.
It has *occasionally* worked - but it's not reliable, and I'd say fails 80-90% of the time.
Does anyone have any ideas? I can continue to update firmware with manual reboots, but it takes a lot more time than I think it should.
Thanks!

Hello,
I haven't seen this myself.
Can you try as a test: reboot the DRAC first, this does not require a host reboot, and then try the update from OME?
How did you Discover the Window OS?
To perform Windows driver update, ensure that the Windows servers are discovered in-band using the supported OpenSSH
Protocol.
If you are experiencing this 80-90% of the time, you may want to call in to Support and a technician can get a look with you.

@DELL-Charles R Thanks, I haven't tried using the reboot idrac first option, I will test that for the next updates.
Host OS was discovered via standard discovery, using host type as Windows and providing admin credentials (with SSH enabled).
I did consider raising a support call, but because I can't reliably replicate it I didn't think that was going to be very useful!
Edit - also, the host OS integration shouldn't really be required - the host OS will perform a graceful shutdown if the power button is pressed, and the iDRAC is certainly capable of doing that.

Hello,
Thank you for the update. I'll make a check with one of our Systems Management engineers.
If you could try reboot the DRAC first on the next time.
If you have the issue at that time, maybe worth contacting Support directly and an engineer can get a look with you.
