list images and size of images older than 1 month on DD

A customer uses Netbackup and backs up to Data Domain, one replicates to the other.

Customer needs to list images and size of images older than 1 month (retention is 1 month) on both Data Domains.

Customer does not have DPA but would like to know if DPA would be able to do this? If yes how?

Thanks

Al

To the best of my knowledge, DPA wouldn't be able to pull this information from the Data Domain directly, but it would be able to query information about images directly from Netbackup.  Specific to your customer's setup, DPA may not be able to pull this information as easily, if the environment isn't already using DPA today.

I would solve this differently.  If all you're interested in what images are older than 1 month on each DD array, I would NFS export the mtree that Netbackup uses, then rely on simple UNIX filesystem data such as mtime and atime to determine the age of images on disk.  This is pretty easy, IF that's the information you're actually trying to gather.

If it's not, Netbackup is your next most-likely source to get this information.  A simple catalog search should return all of the images that Netbackup is aware on DD.  If you have images on DD that are not in the catalog, you'll probably want Netbackup to rescan for them, then expire them.

Thanks!
