I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. What is your end goal here? Trying to manually create files or folders on the underlying filesystem is ill-advised.
The backup and ddvar folders already exist on the filesystem. You can create CIFS/NFS shares to these locations and from there create additional subfolders. You can also create MTREEs that exist outside of the backup folder. Please see the DD OS 5.4 Admin Guide for more information.
I am trying to do the same can you please let me know how did you run those commands in Engineering mode. I am trying to just run a ls -hal command in Engineering mode to check from permissions.

If it's not in the user guides - it's not supported.
DD is a solid and reliable product because you cannot/shouldn't "tinker" under the covers.
Everything you need to do, can be done in the native command sets - it's not just a normal server.
Dig too deep and you will invalidate your warranty and risk losing data - sorry...
Use the DD command reference guide for your specific DDOS to assist you - available on support.emc.com
