Feeling like Dell took advantage of me

I phoned with a question regarding an old DELL laptop (about 8 yrs old) to see if it was worth repairing or if I should just "junk it" and buy a newer laptop. My questions were answered and it seemed the most advantagous route to take was to replace the old laptop. However, before the tech got off the phone with me he told me that I had been selected to recieve a $100 restaurant card and tranfered me to someone to get info on where to sent the card.  He never told me that he was transfering me outside of the DELL company or network, so after I had given all by personal information (name, home address, phone#, ect) I was asked to pay with a credit card for this restaurant "gift card". That's when I started asking questions and found out that I had been sent to a "telemarketing" company called "Savologydining". Boy was I angry that this company never introduced themselves as having nothing to do with Dell and that they were trying to sell me something after they had acquired a great deal of sensitive information from me.  Even more so, I am angry at Dell for what I previeved as "shady" and "underhanded" business dealings! i will be buying a brand new laptop, but you can be certain that it won't be with dell! shame on you, dell - i thought you were an upstanding company - wrong!

Are you positive it was Dell you phoned? It seems like you called some scammers pretending to be Dell.

You only have 2 posts, the first one to create the thread and the second one which is your above reply.

Hopefully someone who works for Dell will get back to you on this.
