Switches or cross connects?

Hi,

We have two cabinets in a data center populated with servers. One cabinet has our SAN and 2 DS-300B switches and servers connected to the fiber network. We would like to connect the 8 servers that are in the other cabinet. I think we have two choices:

* Run 16 fiber xconnect cables between the cabinets from the servers to each switch

or

*  Get two more switches for the other cabinet and trunk the switches

What is preferred? Most of the traffic would be coming from the cabinet without the SAN, either over the xconnects or over the trunk.

Hi,

It all depends what you want with your environment.
If the existing switches in cab 1 have enough space (as in enough ports, and activated) to cater for the servers in the cabinet 2, then why not just have them over 16 fibers?
If there is not enough space, then you need to get 2 new switches for cabinet 2, and ISL them together with minimum 2 fibers each.

That would be the simple solution, if you want to cater for the future growth etc then I suggest to get in contact with your local DELL EMC rep. And check if a SAN refresh is something you need.
