Need to create an ISL between DS-5300B and Connectrix DS24-M2

I need to ISL the two switches in the subject. Does anyone have experience with these two switches and ISL? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

You have to check a few things before ISL'ing.

Change the INTEROP mode on the Brocade switch to 1. Also, make sure the Domain ID on the Brocade is 97+. If you McData switch's Domain ID is 1 then set the Brocade switch Domain ID to 98.

In addition verify that the following parameter settings match between the two switches:

BB Credits (16)

EDTOV (2000)

RATOV (10000)

Data Field Size (2112)

Once you verify the above connect the ISL between the two switches. If your port is set to AUTO it should be set to E once the ISL connection is established.

note: changing interop mode wipes out your config, back it up before your start so it can be restored (if you are merging two existing fabrics)

Thank you dynamox. Forgot to mention that.

We had this exact configuration (and some very similar) in several of our fabrics. Depending on whether you are working through the GUI or the CLI you will need to select Interop Mode 2 (for CLI) or "McData Fabric Mode" (for GUI). Interop mode 1 hasn't existed for a while and I believe it predates any currently supported FOS code levels.

This is assuming that you have your McData switches configured to McData Native fabric mode. If they are configured to McData Open Fabric mode then you will either have to change them to native or set the Brocades to match (that would be Mode 3 in the CLI). Unless you have a good reason I suggest sticking with the McData Native mode for less limitations on features and scalability.

I suppose I shouldn't mention that your DS24-M2 switches are not exactly supported any more and interop fabrics may not (at least right now) be supported in the next FOS release? We still have some interop fabrics, but are planning on ridding ourselves of them by the time FOS 7 is GA.

Hmm, I just noticed that the domain offset numbers in Ernes' original post are off a bit too. The domain offset is 0x60 (hex) which is 96 (decimal). So if you want the 5300B to be domain ID 1 you would set it to 97. 98 would give you a domain ID of 2.

The Domain IDs have to be different on the switches and that's why I recommended to set it to 98. Notice the comment: "If you McData switch's Domain ID is 1 then set the Brocade switch Domain ID to 98"

Sorry Ernes, I misread that. I was thrown by the 97+ comment. Reading too fast I guess (it's near the end of the day here)
