EMC connectrix DS-300B firmware upgrade

Hi

I have been trying to upgrade the firmware on a EMC connectrix DS-300B FC switch, but are not able to. I am logged in with the admin account, and

am using the 3CDeamon as my ftp server, on a Windows 2008 R2 box with the firewall turned off. It doesn't matter what I do, I keep on getting the

following error (the very same one every time):

"The server is inaccessible or firmware path is invalid. Please make sure the server name or IP address, the user/password and the firmware path

are valid."

The FC switch and the Windows 2008 R2 box are on different networks, but there are no firewalls in between, and there is full connectivity

between the two VLAN's. I do the normal administration of the FC switch from this same Windows 2008 R2 box.

A couple of questions:

1. Do I need to be logged in as root in order to do the firmware upgrade ?, I have used the admin account.

2. I have the firmware located on a Windows 2008 R2 box with the firewall turned off, and are using the 3CDeamon FTP server, but are very unsure

if I'm getting the file location correct. I have used the following file path's and more, but it has had no effect at all.

/v6.4.3c

\v6.4.3c

/x.x.x.x/v6.4.3c

\x.x.x.x\v6.4.3c

\\x.x.x.x\v6.4.3c

3. Since Windows are using back slashes, and Unix/Linux and therefore FOS is using slashes, what does the installation require, slashes or back

slashes ?.

Does anyone have any idea as to where I go wrong ?. I have also

Unfortunately I am not the one that originally installed the EMC connectrix DS-300B switch, so I have no idea if the root password was set during

the initial configuration, or if it was set at all. Does anyone know what the default root password is for this switch ?.

I found a support site from Brocade where it mentioned that the default root password was either "password", or "fibranne", but none of them works unfortunately.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

First of all, you don't need root access.

Second the firmwaredownload on windows hosts need forward slash.

Example if the 3com ftp root would be on

C:\ftp\

and the files would be on:

C:\ftp\brcd\fos\7xx\721a\v7.2.1a

The path to do the firmwaredownload from would be:

Example:

DS_300B:admin> firmwaredownload

Server Name or IP Address: x.x.x.x

User Name: anonymous

File Name: //brcd/fos/7xx/721a/v7.2.1a/

Network Protocol(1-auto-select, 2-FTP, 3-SCP, 4-SFTP) [1]: 2

Password:

Server IP: x.x.x.x, Protocol IPv4

Checking system settings for firmwaredownload...

System settings check passed.

You can run firmwaredownloadstatus to get the status

of this command.

This command will cause a warm/non-disruptive boot but will

require that existing telnet, secure telnet or SSH sessions

be restarted.

NO MAPS WARNING

Do you want to continue (Y/N) : y

Also even if there is no password for anonymous, I use my email address to get it running.

Hope this answers all your questions.

Otherwise I suggest to open a service request with customer service.

Regards,

Ed

Hi Ed

I tried to follow your instructions to the letter, and I tried a few other things, but no matter what I try I keep on getting the same extremely

error message: "[Error]: The server is inaccessible or firmware path is invalid. Please make sure the server name or IP address, the

user/password and the firmware path are valid. [Firmware download failed]".

To make matters worse, one of my colleagues was in yesterday to have a look at it, and he did a couple of firmware updates on it from the same

Windows server, so it obviously works. Unfortunately he is one of those guys who likes to keep things to himself, wether it's a power thing or a

way for him to keep his job, I don't know.

What I can't figure out is where do I go wrong ?. Am I both blind and deaf, or is this horrible box just a disaster ?.

1. I have checked and double checked the IP address, and made sure that I can ping both from the switch to the Windows server, and the other way

as well.

2. The firewall is completely turned off the Windows server that hosts the 3CDeamon

3. I have checked and double checked the user name I've created on the 3CDeamon.

4. I have checked and double checked the password

5. I have checked and double checked the protocol, which is set to "FTP"

6. On the file system on the Windows box, the path is: D:\__FC_share\v7.0.2c\v7.0.2c\

6. On the 3CDeamon FTP server, I have set the following file location: D:\__FC_share\v7.0.2c\v7.0.2c

7. I have tried to use both: //v7.0.2c/, //v7.0.2c/v7.0.2c/, I have also tried it with back slashes, and a few other things, but no matter what I

do I keep on getting the same error

I've done like this:

DS_300B:admin> firmwaredownload

Server Name or IP Address: x.x.x.x

User Name: Myprofile

File Name: //v7.0.2c/

Network Protocol(1-auto-select, 2-FTP, 3-SCP, 4-SFTP) [1]: 2

Password: xxxxx

Hi Ed

Thank you very much for your help, very much appreciated. I got it working, it was a combination of getting the path correct, and finding out that it was only on one of the two NIC interfaces the server has I could get it working, even though I had full connectivity from both interfaces. But I got it working, and it's fully updated now. Thank you very much.
