Cisco MDS Supported Domains

All...  EMC Support Matrix shows that for certain common MDS switch combinations, we support a max. of 56 domains per fabric.  Cisco however supports 80 domains per fabric (2nd image below).  We are bumping up against the EMC supported limit at my customer and this is causing some frustration on their part.  Can someone from Connectrix Engineering review and comment on this?  It would be helpful to have an explanation regarding why we support fewer domains per fabric than Cisco and whether there is a way to get past this limit. Thanks.

If you refer to the Dell EMC Connectrix MDS-9000 NX-OS Version 6.2(11) Release Notes, you will find the following information (and links to more detailed information):

  • New features and changes
    • FC domain scale
      • Starting with Cisco MDS NX-OS Release 6.2(11), 80 domains (switches) are supported in a single physical fabric, which is a 33% increase over the previous limit of 60.
All the nodes in a given fabric require Cisco MDS NX-OS Release 6.2(11) or higher to avail this scale.

As the update from Feb 2015 has not yet found the way into the Dell EMC Support Matrix, consider submitting an RPQ…

I hope this will help.

Best regards,

Swen
