Failover Mode for Windows 2012 R2, connected to CX4-120.
I zoned a server running Windows 2012 R2 to a CX4-120. The host registered and logged in, but I notice the failover mode is 1.
This being the first Windows 2012 R2 host on this array, I wanted to verify what the failover mode ought to be.
Looking at the E-lab Interoperability Navigator, I see that Windows 2012 R2 is supported on the CX4 line of arrays, and I see the version of PowerPath I should install on the host. I have requested the OS team install PP as it is not installed; however, I don't see anything that tells what EMC recommends for the failover mode.
Do you know of any EMC documentation that provides this information?
Thank you,
R. Singh

I used the failover wizard to try to set it to 4, but it still shows as failover mode 1. Since this is a new server, I asked the server admin if he can reboot it.
I want to see if when the server logs out of the array and logs back in if it will pick up failover mode 4.
Do you know of a document that specifies what the failover mode should be?

interestingly enough i don't see Windows 2012 R2 listed on the support matrix with Clariion CX4. Not sure if it is not going to make it or you just need to request an RPQ (windows 2012 is there). I would validate this compatibility with your local team, you don't want to go to production and be surprised that you are running an unsupported configuration.

Thanks for your responses.
I set failover mode 4 for the server and after rebooting it came in with mode 4.
Something I was unsure of in my previous attempt:
The server didn't have PowerPath loaded on it... could that have been why it came in with mode 1.
As it turns out, I had a second Windows 2012 R2 server that needed to be connected to the same array. The server admin loaded the same version of PP on it as what is on server 1. I zoned it to the same array, and when it logged in, it came in as failover mode 1.
After completing the failover wizard, setting it to mode 4, and rebooting the server, it came in mode 4.
I used this doc as my reference to determine compatibility:
https://elabnavigator.emc.com/vault/pdf/EMC_CX4_ESSM.pdf
Is that the wrong doc?

Ah yes, you are correct. I didn't look closely at it. I see Windows Server 2012, but not specifically, Windows Server 2012 R2.
Thank you for pointing that out.
I'll have to follow up with EMC on this.

that's the right doc, but notice it does not have Windows 2012 R2.

let us know when you hear back, i am curious if they say it's not supported at all or it's supported if you submit an RPQ.
