Retention class period vs MAX fixed retention period in Centera pool

If the retention class period is larger than the FP_FIXED_RETENTION_MAX defined in the pool, what will be the effective retention period on the C-clip that gets assigned the retention class?

For example, if the retention period for CLASS1 is set to 10 years, and FP_FIXED_RETENTION_MAX in the cluster is 10 days, when will the C-clip that gets assigned retention class CALSS1 be eligible for deletion - in 10 days or 10 years?

The Retention Governors deal only with retention peiods. It is quite in order to make use of Retention Classes that are longer than the maximum (or shorter than the minimum) values enforced.

The reasoning behind this is that as Retention Classes are created by the the administrator on the cluster, it is easy for them to reject any proposed values that do not meet their policies. Without the governors, it would be impossible to do this for explicit values.

By not having to check for the values of any retention class being set in the clip, the operation is performed faster.
