Newbie Questions

I am taking an EMC class in a month but i want to start using the EMC device we have now. Below are the questions i have:

1. The documentation box that came with the unit i have says Celerra. But when i looked through some of the documentation i see references to Clariion CX500. Whats the difference between the two? Note: when i login to power link website it says i have a NS500 & NS500-AUX. I am just trying to figure out what model we have so i can download the appropriate manuals.

2. The unit we have is completely unplugged. Do i just daisy chain the cables? BE1 -> PRI then EXT -> PRI etc....

3. Are the two sets of ports on each side of the unit with the hardrives in it just for redundancy?

4. The unit was setup previously then it was taken apart. When i put it back together can i format the control station and start from scratch? if so is the software available on the powerlink site?

1) The Celerra comes in 2 parts; the Celerra itself (the frontend), and the Clariion (the backend storage).

2,3,4) Usually, a EMC engineer/partner will come to do the installation and cabling for you. Do you have a EMC customer engineer/partner contact that you can get into contact with?

At this point, from my understanding, only EMC engineers/partner engineers can download and install the NAS code.

If it says NS500-AUX than you have an NS500 Integrated model.

that means that the Clariion is directly conneced to the Celerra data mover (no SAN switches in between) and exclusively used for NAS.

It also means that the Celerra actually configures and monitors the Clariion - so you dont have to manage the Clariion separately (no NaviShpere)

Hi,

1. You need Celerra pdfs.
2. Look at getting started manual
3. If you speak about Data Mover ? Yes they are for redundancy
4. Control Station is Linux server so you can backup and restore as regular server.
