emctar data structure - does anyone have the format specification?

I'm trying to reverse-engineer and recover some NDMP data that appears to be in emctar format. Instead of spending hours working out how it's all put together by trawling through hexdumps, does anyone have the specification document for this format?

TIA!

Thanks. I'm a bit new to this; what OS would I need to run to have access to the emctar utility?

OK, I've done a bit more research, I understand a bit more now. There appear to be 4 simulators

which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

to the best of my knowledge there is no standalone emctar utility - its a data format built into the OS
