Connecting to Control Station thru Serial Port
How can I connect to the control station thru serial port? What is the baud rate. kindly provide me the link with the details for NS20. Also how can I use Navisphere to connect to the storage processor thru serial port.
Thanks

the templates?
yes, for a NS Integrated
if you have a NS20FC (check what /nas/sbin/model says) then you have a license to use NaviSphere, but you still have to adhere to the RAID group settings that Celerra supports. You dont have to stick strictly to the templates though.
simplicity - the idea is that the EMC or partner technician configures all the disks at installation time and the customer only uses the pools. pools and the Celerra AVM are way more flexible than changing LUNs and raidgroups.
sorry - I dont think you have a NaviSphere license.
Really your best way is to contact EMC customer service. They will most probably use navicli to unbind and make sure to take the proper precautions.
you're very welcome

it depends if your NS20 is FC enabled or not - i.e. if you have the additional ports and license to connect SAN hosts directly to the clients.
without FC license you just use the "configure storage" button in Celerra Manager or setup_clariion on the CLI
with FC license you have to use NaviShere - the easiest way to launch it is through Celerra Manager - just click on the SP in the storage systems tab.
Its a bit long to describe here - just go to that Celerra tools section in Powerlink
then Install - Step 6 Configure for production
Configure additional storage for your integrated system
PLEASE follow them step by step - there is a number of params that need to be set in order for the Celerra to recognize the LUN - particular the Host ID (HLU >16) is easily overlooked.
P.S.: one way to find out if you have a FC enabled system is to open Celerra Manager (Celerras > Storage > System > Configure) - if it wont let you configure then you have FC enabled

a. Connect a null-modem serial cable from the serial port on the
front of the Control Station to your service laptop.
b. On the service laptop, open a HyperTerminal session using the
serial port connected to the Control Station. Set the
HyperTerminal connection to 19200 bits per second, 8 data
bits, parity none, 1 stop bit, and Hardware flow control. Set
terminal emulation to ANSI. Use the default values for all
other settings.
On the Clariion SP ports - I think they are only meant for EMC technicians and need some sort of PPP config.
NS20 details you can find by going to Powerlink and then use the NS20 landing page.
To get there use the dropdown box on the upper right corner that says Navigator and select Celerra Tools
or go Home > Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Celerra Tools
Also highly recommed is to download the Celerra documentation CD - a link to get it is in the sticky post on the top of this forum category

Could you also tell me on using Navisphere to connect to the Storage Processor. I am not well versed with the NaviCli, I have to 2 create a RAID groups on Clarion CX3-10 which has 15 SATA hard disks. I was unable to connect to it using the IP of the storage processor.
This is a NS20 integrated unit, how can I configure RAID on this unit? Is there any GUI tool?
Sorry I am a beginner.
Thanks

but I'm not sure if that link works for customers

As suggested by you, I verified the Storage settings thru Celera Manager.
It displays storage processor SPA with management address 128.221.253.201
and SPB with status OK and management address Unavailable.
When I right click on the Clarion, I have the option to launch Navisphere.
My control station ip is 128.221.252.150/24
Why is that management IP of SPB is not available even though I am able to ping the IP.
Thanks

It shouldn't. Please open a case with EMC service to investigate
Also ask them to check if you are using NAT or proxy-ARP - if NAT ask them to convert to proxy-ARP
Please to not try to change the Clariion SP IP adresses yourself
Are you now using a FC enabled system or not ?

Configuring unused or new disks
Note: This procedure applies only to CLARiiON storage systems. The Configure button appears only when the CLARiiON storage system contains unused disk devices.
To configure unused or new disk devices for a CLARiiON storage system:
1. Select Celerras > [Celerra_name] > Storage > Systems.
The Storage: Storage Systems page appears with a list of the storage systems available to the Celerra Network Server.
2. In the Storage System column, select a CLARiiON storage system name.
The Storage: System tab appears.
3. Click Configure.
The Storage: Configure Disk Devices page appears.
4. Select the template you want to use to configure the disks. If needed, contact EMC or your service provider for help with template selection.
5. Click OK.
whether you get that Configure button or not is one way to see if your systems is FC enabled.
The other way would be to run setup_clariion - if it says ... contact your SAN admnistrator .... then its FC enabled as well
Or looking if the Clariion has a FC Enabler code installed - which is more difficult to do.

Thank You very much.
I performed the below step.
Celera Manager--Storage--Systems--Clarion CX3-10-Systems--Configure
Then it gave me an option called "User Defined", clicked OK
Now I see two disk groups, with the ID 0000(Disks 0-4) and 0008(6-10) Disk 5 is spare.
Now I need to create another disk group with the disks (11-14). How can I do this?
When I login to Cli and enter setup_clariion CK200074500109
the following messsage is displayed.
CLARIION(s) CK200074500109 will be setup.
Setup CLARiiON CK200074500109 storage device...
System 128.221.252.200 is up

Celera Manager--Tools--Navisphere
Tool Description:
Launch Navisphere - Navisphere is the CLARiiON graphical management tool. It is an optional package that must be installed on the CLARiiON in order to launch. Network connectivity between this browser and the CLARiiON backend (not just the Celerra control station) is also required . Navisphere is only available for SAN CLARiiON backends of gateway Celerras (for example, an NS700G).
How can I use Navisphere on NS20 integrated system? Is it not supported on NS20?

please post the ouput of (run as root)
cd /nas/sbin/setup_backend/
./setup_clariion2 list config CK200074500109
Then just try /nas/sbin/setup_clariion -init
Dont worry, -init sounds dangerours, but it isnt. setup_clariion will NEVER touch existing disks that are in use. It will only configure unbound disks and will ask you before.
Is it not supported on NS20?
not unless you have an FC enabled system, which comes with a NaviSphere license.
On NS Integrated systems you dont need NaviSphere - all Clariion management and setup is done through the Controlstation.
Unlike in the SAN world you wont be constantly adding or changing LUNs - you create some LUNs through some pre-defined templates once, the Celerra puts it into a pool and the the Celerra Volume manager does its magic.

sorry, you still need the nasadmin environment (profile) - easiest way is to login as nasadmin and then su to root (not su -)

For this machine - NS20 with SATA there are only a few shelf templates for RAID config available, namely:
ATA shelf templates (NAS OS) CLARiiON CX3 series storage systems on NS20
ATA_RAID5 4+1 HS 4+1 HS HS HS HS
ATA_RAID5 4+1 HS_8+1
ATA_MIX 4+1 HS 6+2 HS
ATA_MIX 4+1 HS R1 4+2 HS
see http://corpusweb130.corp.emc.com/ns/common/post_install/Config_storage_integrated.htm
On a boot DAE the first 6 disks are always 4+1R5 and a hot spare
Since you already created that second 4+1R5 the only matching template left would be the one that gets you four more hot spares - not really what you want.
The supported options I see:
- remove the 4+1R5 for disks 6-10 and create a 8+1R5 instead
- get another DAE and a single SATA disk and create a 4+1R5 there
In order to do the first option make sure that no file system or other things like savvol are using it and contact EMC customer service to unbind the LUNs. Then you can just execute setup_clariion agan and create that 8+1
hope that helps to clarify
