Change IP's on CIFS server
I have a Celerra NS500. We have a CIFS server setup that is the share name for all users who map drives for our windows AD environment. I need to change the IP address as we are migrating from a Class C ip scheme to a Class B scheme and totally changing our environment. I have been able to change the IP on the control station.
Short of deleting the CIFS server, removing it from AD, replicating then recreating the new interface on the control station and recreating the CIFS server name, is there an easier way?

please search the forum for interface stealing (just add your new interface and then remove the old)

Using GUI,Create a new interface.
Go to CIFS, CIFS server properties by right clicking the CIFS server.Uncheck the old IP and select the new IP.

Naveen,
For Safer side I think We can first assign the new IP, later we can uncheck the old one. I think this would give time to update new IP in the DNS records.
Correct me if I am wrong.

The option to select another IP is not available in the GUI. I have tried that before posting. I even tried logged in as root. You can only select a different IP during the creation process.
I have tried creating another interface already, and tried creating another CIFS server to be used as a test. It is pingable, but not browsable. It worries me to delete the current CIFS server and having to re-assign it if I cannot browse the device after its assigned.

did that change recently?
so far with the Celerra Manager and server_cifs versions I have tried you couldn't directly remove an interface from a CIFS server ?
that's why I have recommended to go the stealing route
If you have a Celerra where this works please post the DART version and a screenshot.

Please ignore that statement as that's not a general practice to change IP Address or name, as That's an option to the EMC support personnel only and can be used as a last resort.

looks like this has finally changed in a recent NAS code and I couldnt see it documented
On my lab machine with 5.6.48 you can also remove an interface from a CIFS server by just un-selecting it in the properties of the CIFS server.

I am using Software Version 5.5.41.1 This was just upgraded the end of July right before our maintenance contract with EMC expired. We now are out of maintenance.
The CIFS server shows the interface it is setup on, but does not allow to change that interface

what DART version do you have installed ?
If its 5.6 you can do it directly in the GUI
Enhancements to existing features
Celerra Manager Modifying CIFS server properties
The CIFS server properties NetBIOS alias, NetBIOS name, and the
Interface list are modifiable. The NetBIOS alias and NetBIOS name on
the CIFS server properties page now appear in the Celerra Manager
as modifiable text boxes.
New features and changes
The Interfaces field appears with modifiable checkboxes that list all
the non-default interfaces. User can select/clear interfaces from the
available list of interfaces. NetBIOS name, NetBIOS alias, and
Interface list can also be modified via the CLI.
If you are still on 5.5 do the following:
1) create a new interface
2) add the new interface to the existing CIFS server through either GUI or server_cifs
3) create a new CIFS server (doesnt have work - standalone is fine) and specify the existing "old" interface to be used
4) delete that temp. new CIFS server
this way the temp CIFS server will "steal" the interface from the existing one - effectively removing it.
Important is that you add the new interface before - you cant "steal" the last remaining interface from a CIFS server

I just tested it on an old box running 5.5. code. And I also experienced that the new unused Interface is not listed in the GUI on the CIFS server property page.
But I was able to it using the Command line - using server_cifs command I associated the new IP Address to the existing CIFS server - use the following command -
server_cifs server_x -add compname=CIFS_Server,domain=Domain_Name,interface=Test
Earlier I created a new Interface (IP Address) named Test - which I associated with the existing CIFS server - you may use the Interface IP Address in place of Interface Name.
Alsthough it is server_cifs add command - but it actually does not create the CIFS server rather add the option used with the existing CIFS server.
After this, you 'll see that the existing CIFS server has two IP Addresses associated to it - use server_cifs server_x command or check it from GUI.
Now - you in GUI -you create a dummy CIFS server and select the old IP Address to use with this dummy CIFS server - so that the old IP address is now removed from your existing CIFS server.
Then you can delete the dummy CIFS server and then delete the old Interface.
Hope this helps,
Sandip

The proper solution that worked for my case was:
Create the new interface for the new IP
Delete CIFS server
Recreate the CIFS server and assign it to the new IP
That is all it took in this case since I do not have the gui that will allow me to reassign the IP interface on a CIFS server.
Thank you all for your assistance
