Avamar VMware backup of Windows Domain Controller

Hello,
I've just upgraded to Avamar 19.3
As most of our servers are Virtual Machine, I would like to move away from the File Level backup and replace it with the VMWare Image Level Backup.
But I can't find any best practices for Windows Domain Controller.
Can I just run a VMWare backup on them?
Would I be able to restore it in case of a failure?
Or do I still need to run the VSS backup on top of the Image one?
