Avamar Client Migration from one Grid to another Grid

Question

Hi Experts ,

I need some help please , We have an Avamar Grid (Grid A) and we are backing up about 1000 clients on the Primary Grid (Grid A) and for the DR purpose we are also replicating from Primary Grid(Grid A) to Secondary Grid (Grid B or Replication Grid) ,

On the secondary Grid (Grid B) we had huge amount of Space left ( 6 months back) and We started backing up additional new clients(300 clients) on secondary Grid ( Grid B / replicated server) .

Now the secondary Grid is 95% Full and Now I want to migrate those additional clients(300 clients) from secondary Grid (Grid B) to the New Grid(Grid C) , ( I know the Garbage collection is running and it will free up the space , but it will take huge amount of time to cleanup the space )

Now I want to migrate those additional 300 clients from Grid B to Grid C .

I need step by step instructions how to migrate client backing up from one Grid B to another Grid C .

What are the changes that I need to do on the Grid B, Grid C and on client . ( detail instructions please )

The 'Avamar Client Manager' allows you to move clients between grids that are registered to the 'Enterprise Manager' you launch it from.  Have a read in the admin guide about these two features and you will find it quite easy.

Hi adbul,1. You need to login to Avamar Enterprise Manager of anyone Avamar server. Open a web browser and input http://AVAMARSERVER/em to login.You can refer to 'Avamar Enterprise Manager' section of Avamar Administration Guide.2. Add other 2 Avamar server to the Avamar Enterprise Manager.3. Migrate clients to other Server.You can refer to 'Avamar Client Manager' section of Avamar Administration Guide. There are 'Moving clients to a new server' section.Hope this hepls.

I appreciate everyone's response , I am using Avamar V4.1.2.33 , I don't see Avamar client Manager in the enterprise manager console (Browser).

Do I have to retire the client from the first server(GRIDB) then add the client to the second server (GRID C) .and then initialize the client .

Hi abdul,oh. Unfortunately, if you are using Avamar 4.1, we cannot move clients to new Avamar server by Avamar Client Manager. You may already checked below info from 6.1 Avamar Administration Guide.Support for version 4 and 5 serversSoftware changes and additions have enabled new features in Avamar Client Manager.Some of the features that are fully supported when working with clients activated to anAvamar server version 6.0 have limited support when working with clients activated to anAvamar server version 4.1.x or 5.x. The following features have limited support on Avamarserver versions 4.1.x or 5.x:◆ Move clients to a new server◆ Move clients to a new domain◆ Retire clients◆ Delete clients◆ Upgrade◆ Username search◆ Client details◆ Dataset, retention policy, and schedule detailsFor your said 'Do I have to retire the client from the first server(GRIDB) then add the client to the second server (GRID C) .and then initialize the client .',&#xa0; absolutely you can. Just it is equivalent to re-register the client.

yes! unfortunately that's the only option you have. Once these clients are registered on the new avamar they will perform their first backup which would take long as nearly all the data will get backed up. Please plan for that in advance.

1 .Does any one know the command to retire the client from the Grid and the Command to Delete the Avamar Client .

2. If I want to delete or retire multiple clients , Do we have any in-build script

Hi,I did not find the related command, you may have to retire and delete client through Avamar Administrator.
