m18 R1, not able to shutdown properly

Alienware m18 R1

Alienware m18 R1

Whenever I used the laptop for too long, say more than 10 hours, when I tried to shut it down(properly, using the shutdown option provided in the Win11 starting menu, of course), it won't shutdown. I could observe that my mouse still has its lights on, as well as the keyboard light.

Once this condition occurs, the laptop will stuck in such state and not able to shutdown. If I wait for ~20min, the laptop will restart, which will be able to enter the login screen of Win11, and if I then choose to shutdown again, it will be able to shutdown like nothing happened.

I manually terminating most of running process, such as onedrive, before I tried to shutdown after I observed this problem, but it didnt work. I also checked hardware condition with BIOS hardware test and supportAssist, no issue found. Lastly, I am pretty sure my OS and hardware drives are in newest condition.

Oh one last thing, I don't think this PC is infected with malware, as I have performed full scan on this device several times.

Anyone had similar issue? This is the most weird issue I have ever had.

Thx in advance.

Hi ThisisANickname welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Thank you for a good opening post.

Please download Samsung Magician, Crucial Storage Executive, WD Dashboard, etc. that is correct for your SSD named provider. Then update its SSD firmware. Does this fix the Alienware m18 R1 (1/20/2023) shutdown issue?

@crimsom Thx for the quick response.

I am pretty sure that my harddisk is Samsung, and the supportAssist updated it a few weeks ago.
Lemme try to update it again.

EDIT:

Magician cannot recognize my hard disk. Turns out it does not work on RAID 0.

Hi ThisisANickname thank you for sharing update.

The Dell SupportAssist application will update Dell Drivers & Applications, but not SSD firmware.

Download Crystal Disk Info x64 and this will reveal and give Health Status of all SSD and HDD storage devices. (If wanted, more detailed information is available.)

Download the unique OEM application for the SSD OS(C:) boot drive and this will update the SSD firmware.

@ThisisANickname I have the same problem but in the windows option menu there is no way to access power settings, how did you manage to disable quick startup?
